Wedding workshop with Hilary
Hilary spoke to us about how much time goes into each wedding - about 40 hours, and how to price your work. We then went over to s John's where we had our mock wedding and Hilary went through the shooting that she would do on the day. Hilary employs a photo journalistic style and only does the required formal shots - an assistant comes along as well to capture lots of candid shots from a distance. Hilary spoke about the difficulties with the colour balance inside the church due to the mixed lighting - so she tends to make those inside images black and white. Hilary uses two cameras so she doesn't have to quickly change lenses, she wears a small bum bag to carry her camera cards which only she handles. Hilary rarely uses flash and shoots with a wide aperture and adjusts the ISO as needed. Outside we were given tips on how to make the wedding party relax and appear natural for the shots.
